  1. “I think I’m going to read FEVER, 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson. It’s a piece of historical fiction about the yellow fever epidemic that attacked and killed thousands of Americans. I’ve had a few friends read it, and they tell me it’s great. I found it on the Barrett’s Bookstore Website. I can’t wait to get started!”

    • “Dear Mr. Camillo,
I’ve read FEVER, 1793. I had heard the same recommendations from my friends. Unfortunately, I thought the book was a little slow on action. The main character was very interesting, though. I thought Anderson did a good job of making the reader wonder what would happen to her. Good luck! Hope you enjoy!”

  13. I’d like to read the sci-fi novel “Uglies” by Scott Westerfield (found on Amazon) because a place where all sixteen year-olds get an operation to bring them to a standard “pretty”, could be intersesting. All of the children below sixteen are left jealous and sometimes scheme against their elders. This strange and unique world probably holds a good story.

  17. I think I’m going to read Sunrise Over Fallujah by Walter Dean Myers. This is a realistic fiction book about being in the Iraqi freedom operation in 2003 where solders are assigned small missions to ensure Iraqi civilian support. This includes finding lost children, speaking to communities about casualties, and forging relationships with former Iraqi allies. This seems like a tough and very awkward task to complete. No one I know has read this book. I found it on the Darien library list for the summer.

    • i read the book sunrise over fallujah and i really enjoyed it. It was cool to see how the character changed over the ocurse of the book and how you get to know his background. I also read anothing book by the same author in the same genre and i enjoyed both of them. The name of that book is fallen angels.

I think it’d be really cool to read about the tasks those soldiers had to complete, and to learn about the history of the Iraqi operation and all that. its also good that you want to read this book because you said that you don’t know anyone else who has read it, but if you read it and think its good, you can suggest it to your friends. I’m also pretty sure I’ve heard of Walter Dean Myers, and that he’s a pretty good author. I’m going to look up the book on the Darien Library list, and it might be one of the 3 books that I’ll read over the summer!

I’ve decided to read the book The Kane Chronicles, The , Book One: Red Pyramid. On the Barret Bookstore middle School reading list. It is by my favorite author Rick Riordan and it’s fantasy which is my favorite genre to read. I also asked my friends what they thought about it and they said it’s really good and it’s almost as good as Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief which is my favorite book of ALL TIMES!! :)

    • I agree with your friends. The story is very similar to Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief because it has very similar action and they both have to do with mythology, so you’ll definitively enjoy the Kane Chronicles if you liked Percy Jackson.

Ever since I saw a picture of this book in the back of another book I was reading, it really interested me, even though I didn’t know what it was about. Well, I looked up what this book was about, and I found out that this book takes place in the future, specifically 2074, and pedestrians are required to wear walking helmets, football has been banned, and verbal abuse is a misdemeanor, and obesity is a felony. Because almost everything is illegal, nearly twenty percent of the population is in jail where they provide manual labor that keeps the newly named ” United Safer States of America” running. The main character is Bo Marsten, and like his father and brother who are both in jail, he has trouble following the rules. I can’t wait to read this book!!!

It’s about a 13 year old girl named Georgia who loves to draw, just like her mother who died a few years back. One day, she gets a mysterious letter granting her free admission into an Art Museum for a year. That’s when things start to change. I haven’t had any friends read it, and had never heard of it until today. Actually, I hate drawing myself. But it seems really interesting! Can’t wait to read it.

I think one of my two additional books along with Chains is going to
be My Brother Sam is Dead. I heard some positive recommendations
from my friends, and it was a popular book last year. Hence, I would like
to read it as one of my books over the summer and can’t wait to determine
if my friends are correct about it being so good.

    • Hi Kyle,
I read that book in fifth grade with my class, and it was great. It is extremely historically accurate, and the plot is very intersesting. I believe there was many twists in the story, but I can’t really remeber. I also thought the ending was a bit sad, though, when Sam… oops! (Yes, I really stopped in mid-type) I’m not going to spoil it, but it was sad… Anyways, hope you enjoy it like my class did.

  45. Dear Mr. Camillo,

When I was looking through books, I noticed one Real World Fiction novel called “North of Beautiful”. It’s a story about a girl named Terra Rose Cooper, who has “a permanent port-wine stain” that covers her face; and of course everyone she gets stares from anyone she meets. Her family and friends don’t really encourage surgery for her, and even her family, especially her dad, crack jokes about her blemish on her face. The book seems to be basically about different things everyone has to face as a teen, pressure, and most importantly, judgement. I think this book will be really good, and I can’t wait to read it!

  46. I might read “Compound” by S.A. Bodeen. The genre is science fiction, which is what the author usually writes. It is about Eli and his family who have lived in the underground Compound for six years. No amount of luxury can stifle the dull routine of living in the same place, with only his two sisters, his father, and mother, doing the same thing day after day after day. But there are problems with their carefully planned existence that threaten to destroy their sanctuary—and their sanity. Eli’s father built the Compound to keep them safe, but now they can’t get out, because he won’t let them out.
